About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; some college is preferred.
• A minimum of five years of experience in golf course management or maintenance is preferred, as stated in the posting.
• Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices.
• Working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods.
• Thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of golf.
• Strong administrative and executive ability, particularly in problem solving and decision making.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting golf course operations, including employment, safety, and environmental standards.
• Current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
• Ability and willingness to participate in continuing education opportunities, such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days, and trade shows.
• Basic computer and MS Office knowledge is a plus; moderate accounting knowledge, including general ledger knowledge, is specified.
• Ability to perform the stated physical requirements, including lifting, bending, reaching, pushing or pulling, climbing, standing, kneeling, sitting, walking, typing, and operating vehicles and equipment.
• English-language comprehension and proficiency in seeing, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing for safety, management direction, job responsibilities, and third-party interaction.
• The posting lists English, Spanish, and French for business letters, memos, customer interaction, presentations, demonstrations, employee direction, and audits.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain golf course properties, including golf courses, maintenance equipment, clubhouse grounds, and landscaping.
• Supervise golf course construction and maintenance, as well as the maintenance and repair of construction and maintenance equipment.
• Provide professional advice, opinions, assistance, and services to the facility’s board of directors or managing body as required.
• Participate in long-range planning meetings.
• Interview, hire, train, direct, and supervise employees responsible for maintaining the properties, and exercise authority to terminate subordinate employees.
• Plan maintenance and project work to meet agreed-upon maintenance standards and long-range goals.
• Oversee scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment.
• Inspect the golf course and related areas to evaluate whether management standards are being achieved and adjust management programs as needed.
• Acquire equipment and purchase supplies needed to maintain the golf course and other properties.
• Control inventory and oversee equipment maintenance programs.
• Approve expenditures and apply cost-control measures to keep operating and capital expenses as close as possible to approved budgets.
• Maintain accurate and complete records, including payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, and pesticide applications.
• Communicate regularly with other top management members about activities, goals, plans, and member or customer feedback.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
