About The Position

Requirements

• F85/F89 NYFD Certificate of Fitness; the qualifications section specifies a valid F89 Fire Life Safety Director license.
• At least 2 years of security experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Valid New York State Department of State license.
• Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel and the general public.
• Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
• Ability to prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; computer skills may be required.
• Ability to read and understand operating procedures and instructions.
• Successful completion of a background investigation and post-offer/pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Maintain active status of all required licenses and carry the license while on duty.
• Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing environments and situations.
• Intermediate computer skills to use wireless technology at client-specific sites.
• Satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
• Neat and professional appearance.
• Ability to handle common and crisis situations calmly and efficiently.
• Ability to read, understand, and clearly speak English, and to communicate and hear instructions, including by phone.
• Ability to handle the pressure of working with a high volume of members of the general public.

Responsibilities

• Implement the building’s fire safety plan to protect life and property.
• Manage the Fire Command Station and supervise the fire brigade, floor wardens, deputy floor wardens, and building evacuation supervisors.
• Act as a liaison to the NYC Fire Department during emergencies.
• Ensure life safety systems and related equipment are fully functional.
• Ensure all floors have fire safety teams, including Fire Wardens, Deputy Fire Wardens, and Building Evacuation Team members.
• Conduct fire alarm drills and maintain written logs of critiques to identify weaknesses in response times or life safety systems and equipment.
• Provide clear direction, information, and assistance to visitors, guests, vendors, and employees in a professional, pleasant, and courteous manner, including during emergencies.
• Assist building security staff with visually inspecting visitor, vendor, and employee access badges or identification cards to verify the holder and prevent unauthorized access.
• Maintain surveillance and report suspicious persons or packages.
• Perform CPR/AED and basic first aid when required.
