About The Position
The Financial Analyst / Staff Accountant supports the Accounting and Finance department with financial reporting, general accounting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, this position is suited to an early-career accounting or finance professional seeking to develop a foundation in accounting operations and financial analysis. The role works with the Assistant Controller and other accounting team members to ensure accurate financial information, support month-end close, analyze business performance, and improve financial reporting and processes. The position also supports construction and project accounting, including project financial reporting, Work-in-Progress reporting, job cost reconciliations, and analysis of project performance and margins. It helps maintain accurate, organized financial records and supports accounting process improvements, internal controls, systems work, and compliance with established accounting policies and procedures. The role is primarily office-based and involves routine computer and telephone work. Occasional visits to operational or construction locations may occur if assigned, with site-specific training and required personal protective equipment. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of accounting, finance, internship, or related professional experience.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Ability to handle confidential data, meet strict deadlines, and communicate with field and office employees.
Nice To Haves
- NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Experience in construction, utilities, telecom, manufacturing, public works, or another unionized environment is welcomed.
Responsibilities
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Assist with bank, credit card, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations.
- Support the maintenance of accurate general ledger records.
- Assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other accounting schedules.
- Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities as needed.
- Assist with audit requests and prepare supporting documentation.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze actual financial results against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Research and explain significant financial variances.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Prepare recurring financial reports and ad hoc analyses for management.
- Help maintain financial models, schedules, and reporting tools.
- Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, and other key financial metrics.
- Assist leadership in identifying financial trends and areas requiring further review.
- Assist with project financial reporting, including revenue, costs, and profitability.
- Support Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and analysis.
- Assist with job cost reconciliations and research project cost discrepancies.
- Work with accounting and operations teams to ensure costs are accurately assigned to projects.
- Assist with financial analysis related to project performance and margins.
- Develop an understanding of construction accounting concepts, including percentage-of-completion accounting, retainage, committed costs, and job costing.
- Assist with improving accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.
- Help identify opportunities to automate or streamline manual accounting processes.
- Support accounting system implementations, upgrades, and reporting improvements as needed.
- Ensure compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.
