About The Position

PHS Canada is seeking a senior Building Automation Systems (BAS) professional to enhance their estimating methodology. This role is ideal for someone with extensive BAS experience in field work, programming, design, or project management who is looking to build processes, set standards, and strengthen the team, rather than just meet numbers. The company specializes in HVAC control and automation systems for the industrial sector and is a dynamic startup within the Laurentide family.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10+ years of experience in building automation systems (BAS), whether in project management, programming (Niagara, PLC, etc.), design/engineering, or advanced controls estimating.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC) and electrical interfaces (Division 26).
  • Experience with BACnet, Niagara, or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Structured, analytical mindset with the ability to build scalable methods.
  • Self-driven, accountable, and a strong communicator with a field-oriented perspective.
  • Fluency in French, spoken and written.

Nice To Haves

  • Estimating experience is a major asset, but not mandatory: deep BAS expertise matters most.
  • English is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze Division 25, 23, and 26 drawings and specifications.
  • Understand BAS interfaces with electrical systems, including power supplies, panels, variable frequency drives (VFDs), controls, and interlocks.
  • Produce complete estimates covering materials, labour, programming, and commissioning.
  • Identify project risks, exclusions, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with design, programming, electrical, and operations teams.
  • Develop and refine estimating methods, including ratios, models, and standards.
  • Implement realistic and repeatable labour-calculation frameworks.
  • Define clear scope boundaries between Divisions 25, 23, and 26.
  • Contribute to building an estimating database.
  • Standardize practices across the team.
  • Participate in bid-strategy discussions.
  • Support the operations team during the pre-project phase.
  • Challenge technical choices and interfaces between disciplines.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
