About The Position
Tallahassee State College (TSC) is seeking a part-time OPS Supervising Dentist for the Dental Hygiene Clinic on the main campus. The role requires the dentist to be present on the clinic floor during all clinic sessions to oversee patient screenings, prioritize treatment needs, and guide dental hygiene students. This includes evaluating patient histories, requesting medical consultations, administering local anesthesia, providing oral cancer exams, and interpreting dental x-rays. The Supervising Dentist is also responsible for ensuring quality assurance and accuracy in patient record documentation according to legal and medical standards.
Requirements
- Dentist currently licensed in the state of Florida
- Ability to follow all clinic and college policies.
- Instruct students 1:1 in an equitable and consistent manner.
- Work in a collegial manner with dental faculty and division/college personnel.
Responsibilities
- Be present on the clinic floor during all clinic sessions or until all patients have been dismissed.
- Evaluate patient histories and request medical consultations, guiding students in completing the necessary forms.
- Call physicians for immediate consultation if required prior to care and document recommendations.
- Administer all local anesthesia until DH students have completed their Local Anesthesia Practicum.
- Oversee patient screening and prioritize patient needs for assessment and treatment.
- Provide written prescriptions for patient medications, radiographs, pit and fissure sealants, and chemotherapeutic agents.
- Perform oral cancer exams during screening appointments and examine suspicious lesions detected at future appointments, providing a differential diagnosis.
- Oversee documentation on patient records for quality assurance and accuracy according to legal/medical "Standards of Care".
- Read and initial the "Patient Daily Record Review" at the end of each appointment, bringing any discrepancies to the attention of the student or instructor.
- Read and interpret all dental x-rays exposed in the dental clinic, providing quality control for operator techniques and proper functioning of x-ray machines.
- Assist students with all panoramic x-ray exposures.
