About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group, specifically for DART 2P51 D3 (Winter). The course focuses on the exploration of script-based performance through the embodiment of monologue and scene studies in contemporary realism. It covers techniques for approaching a script, developing a role, creating character, impulse work, and enhancing vocal and physical awareness. This is a half course with a lab component, requiring 5 hours per week. The lab sessions are scheduled for Mondays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and Thursdays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Requirements

  • PhD or MFA in acting or directing for theatre, or a relevant, related discipline and training in recognized approaches to scene study and impulse work.
  • Significant professional and/or scholarly contributions to acting or directing for theatre or a relevant, related discipline.
  • Successful, relevant, theoretically-informed post-secondary teaching experience. Evidence of teaching effectiveness will ideally consist of a complete teaching dossier. Previous course evaluations, peer teaching evaluations, teaching letters of recommendation, or equivalent objective, systematically collected evidence will also be considered.
  • Expertise in anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related approaches to theatre making, theatre pedagogy, and/or theatrical practices. Evidence of expertise will ideally demonstrate how these principles are integrated into the applicant’s post-secondary teaching. Expertise may include, for example, scholarly presentations or publications, development of professional practices, academic or professional leadership, consulting work, or professional development or training.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system, the BrockDB online portal, the OASIS system for managing student accommodations, or equivalent systems in other institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Preparation of lectures.
  • Student consultation.
  • Marking and grading.
  • Course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
