Critical Care Pharmacist – Immunocompromised ICU

About The Position

The immunocompromised ICU is a 22-bed mixed medical/surgical ICU located at the Rochester Methodist Campus. This campus serves hematology, oncology, abdominal solid organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, OB/Gynecology, dermatology, colorectal surgery, general surgery, and orthopedic surgery. Many patients are immunocompromised due to their underlying disease or drug therapy. The role also involves working with abdominal solid organ transplant services for pancreas, living and deceased donor kidney and liver transplants. Both programs are academically focused on teaching, quality improvement, and scientific research. The Critical Care Pharmacist will work alongside talented staff and receive support from the Department of Pharmacy, Critical Care Leadership, and Mayo Clinic. The Mayo Clinic Department of Pharmacy is dedicated to a patient-centered, integrated care model to advance the Mayo Clinic’s Bold.Forward. strategy, focusing on People and Culture, Practice Innovation, Care Team Evolution, Discoveries and Cures. In 2023, the department had over 200 scientific publication outputs and over 80 active quality improvement projects. Nearly 250 pharmacy staff attained academic rank in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. The department's pharmacy residency has been accredited by ASHP since 1973 and is a primary training site for 21 pharmacy residents, 12 local pharmacy students, and 9 pharmacy summer interns. Staff also interface with and educate medical trainees.

Requirements

  • Critical Care Pharmacist experience
  • Experience in an immunocompromised ICU setting
  • Experience with hematology, oncology, abdominal solid organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, OB/Gynecology, dermatology, colorectal surgery, general surgery, and orthopedic surgery patient populations.
  • Experience with pancreas, living and deceased donor kidney and liver transplants.
  • Ability to participate in bedside rounding as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to identify and intervene in drug-related issues.
  • Ability to provide recommendations on optimization of patient-specific drug therapy.
  • Ability to perform admission and discharge medication reconciliation.
  • Ability to perform transition of care planning.
  • Experience with collaborative practice agreements.
  • Ability to respond to medical emergencies.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care on a rotating basis.
  • Ability to precept and mentor learners.
  • Willingness to be involved in scholarly activities including quality initiatives and multidisciplinary research.
