Requirements

• Dental Assistant I or II
• North Carolina Dental Radiography Certification
• High school diploma or GED
• Acceptable driving record
• Ability to safely operate large vehicles and mobile healthcare units
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to travel throughout the organizations service area
• Ability to lift, carry, and move supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work in a mobile healthcare environment
• CPR certification – training will be provided after hire if candidate is not already certified.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Nice To Haves

• Experience operating buses, RVs, commercial vehicles, or mobile healthcare units
• Experience with inventory control and logistics management
• Experience in healthcare, community health centers, school-based programs, or public health settings
• Knowledge of dental equipment and supplies
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required.
• Applicants who may serve in an interpreting capacity will be required to take a language assessment
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to identify and resolve operational issues
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to establish positive working relationships with staff, patients, schools, and community partners

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and transport the mobile dental unit to schools, community sites, outreach events, and other designated locations
• Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Maintain all vehicle logs, mileage records, inspection reports, and transportation documentation
• Ensure compliance with all organizational vehicle safety requirements and applicable regulations
• Monitor fuel levels and coordinate refueling activities
• Maintain cleanliness and professional appearance of the vehicle interior and exterior
• Prepare the mobile dental unit for daily operations
• Set up and break down equipment, supplies, and treatment areas
• Connect and verify operation of utilities, internet, power sources, generators, and related systems when applicable
• Ensure the unit is secure before, during, and after service delivery
• Troubleshoot minor operational issues and report concerns to leadership
• Monitor condition and functionality of clinical and non-clinical equipment on the mobile unit
• Coordinate preventive maintenance and repair services for the mobile unit and associated equipment
• Maintain maintenance schedules and service records
• Communicate equipment needs and repair concerns to the Dental Practice Manager
• Assist in evaluating equipment replacement and operational improvement needs
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels of clinical, administrative, and operational supplies
• Perform routine inventory counts and audits
• Organize and stock treatment areas, storage compartments, and supply cabinets
• Prepare and submit supply requests as needed
• Transport supplies and equipment between fixed dental sites and the mobile unit when necessary
• Serve as an on-site liaison during mobile dental visits
• Coordinate logistical needs with school personnel and community partners
• Assist with site preparation and access requirements
• Ensure all necessary supplies, equipment, and materials are available for scheduled service days
• Support community outreach and mobile dental events
• Maintain mobile unit operational records and documentation
• Assist with tracking mileage, maintenance schedules, inventory, and operational metrics
• Participate in quality improvement, safety, and compliance activities
• Support implementation of policies and procedures related to mobile dental operations
• During periods when the mobile dental unit is not in service, the Mobile Dental Unit Coordinator/Driver assist at fixed dental site.
• When appropriately trained and credentialed, the Mobile Dental Unit Coordinator/Driver may: Provide limited chairside dental assisting support during employee absences or vacancies
• Assist with patient flow and non-clinical support activities
• Support dental staff as assigned during operational emergencies or unexpected staffing shortages
