About The Position

Requirements

• BLS certification.
• High school diploma.
• A minimum of 1–2 years of electrophysiology clinical experience as a Cardiac Device Specialist or Device Monitor Technician.
• Alternatively, a minimum of two years of on-the-job training and demonstrated proficiency in Cardiac Device Management may substitute for the formal education training program.
• Specific knowledge of cardiac devices, including pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).
• Ability to recognize complex arrhythmias.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Moderate to advanced computer skills.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) certification from the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE).

Responsibilities

• Perform interrogations, interpretations, and programming of pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and implantable loop recorders.
• Enter patient data and provide reports for electrophysiology physicians and the patient medical record.
• Evaluate and manage devices for patients under the supervision of an electrophysiology physician, including remote monitoring, interrogations, reprogramming, and patient education.
• Coordinate Device Clinic activities with Nursing, Billing, Accounting, and other operational areas.
• Ensure device equipment is properly maintained, updated, and operating to manufacturers’ specifications.
• Ensure supplies are maintained at appropriate levels and report concerns or needs to the Device Clinic Coordinator.
• Assess wounds after device implantation to ensure incisions are healing appropriately; this is an RN-only task.
• Evaluate service quality and participate in care coordination to support communication among caregivers, patients, referral sources, and payers.
• Discuss operational issues and review records and documentation for regulatory and internal compliance.
• Assist with Device Clinic research as needed.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff and participate in staff orientation and training.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and maintain clinical knowledge through internal and external training programs.
• Provide interpretation of knowledge and direction to clinical staff.
