• Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools to create impactful compliance dashboards and reports.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of compliance and industry processes, practices, and regulations preferred.
• Demonstrates commitment to continued education on compliance-related issues and relevant federal and state legal authority.
• Experience with ethics, policies and procedures, training, investigations, audits, and developing and managing COI or compliance training and communication projects preferred.
• Ability to identify legal risk and help strike a sensible and practical balance between legal risks and business goals.
• Strong analytical reasoning skills to effectively and efficiently review, evaluate, and analyze information and data.

• Prior experience in a compliance-related area preferred.
• Prior experience working in a COI, ethics, research security, or research compliance area preferred.

• Strong organizational skills.
• Advanced knowledge of software application systems and spreadsheet reporting, and demonstrates eagerness and aptitude to quickly learn new software/programs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and conduct reviews of compliance activities of UTMB departments for the Office of Institutional Compliance (OIC) to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
• Conduct comprehensive reviews of COI disclosures, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, federal regulations, and UT System guidance.
• Coordinate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders across the institution to identify, evaluate, and manage potential conflicts while supporting processes related to management plans, committee meetings, annual certifications, and database oversight.
• Support the institution’s Research Security program by reviewing state and federal regulations and UT System guidance as it relates to undue foreign influence and research compliance.
• Review forms, sponsored research activities, and respond to inquiries regarding research security regulations and institutional policies.
• Provide training and education to the institution on relevant COI, ethics, research security, and research compliance matters.
• Support compliance investigations and international collaboration activities, partnering with leadership within the Office of Institutional Compliance on sensitive and complex matters requiring sound judgment, professionalism, and confidentiality.
• Reviews Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosures.
• Conducts thorough reviews of disclosures and maintains familiarity with institutional policies and SOPs, UT System policies, federal regulations, and applicable guidelines in this area.
• Assists and interacts with faculty and staff across multiple departments to review potential conflicts in personal relationships and sponsored agreements.
• Updates and maintains COI disclosure information within the COI database in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner.
• Provides assistance and guidance related to management plans, annual certifications, COI database management, and Conflict of Interest and Research Security Committee meeting processes.
• Reviews and coordinates conflicted institutional relationships.
• Maintains familiarity with Institutional policies and SOPs, System policies, federal regulations, and applicable guidelines in this area.
• Assists faculty and staff with Institutional Conflict of Interest-related questions and guidance.
• Responsible for the coordination and implementation of Institutional Conflict of Interest management plans.
• Maintains familiarity with institutional policies and SOPs, UT System policies and guidance, federal regulations, state laws and orders, and applicable guidelines related to research security and undue influence.
• Becomes knowledgeable with research security-related requirements and apply appropriately to questions or requests for information.
• Works collaboratively with the institution’s Research Security Office to review submitted forms, reports, and sponsored research activities.
• Responds to inquiries from faculty and staff across various departments regarding Research Security forms, restrictions, and regulations.
• Assists with Compliance Investigations as needed or directed by the Associate Vice President, Institutional Compliance.
• Assists with tasks for the Conflicts of Interest and Research Security Committee, the Executive Research Compliance Committee, or other committees as directed by the Associate Vice President, Office of Institutional Compliance. This includes, but is not limited to, agendas, minutes, reports, and email communications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Performing special projects and/or other duties as assigned or as requested by the Associate Vice President, Institutional Compliance; Chief Compliance Officer; or the Deputy Chief Compliance Officer, including, without limitation, assisting other parts of the Compliance Program on legal and regulatory matters, and assisting with investigations or reviews.
