About The Position

The incumbent provides oncology focused patient care, including the administration of antineoplastics, to an assigned group of patients. The nurse incorporates psycho-motor and age-appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other, utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. This role also involves acting as a role model to students and Clinical Nurses new to the unit, and functioning as a Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) as requested by the supervisor/manager.

Requirements

  • One year of Oncology experience or one year of MedSurg experience and completion of OCN Cancer Basics class
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum of six months demonstrated nursing experience
  • Knowledge and practice of body mechanics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of infection control techniques
  • Current chemotheropy/biotherapy card required within 3 months of hire
  • Current California RN license
  • Current BLS certification
  • All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, physicians and others as part of a care team
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

  • Understanding of JCAHO requirements
  • Oncology Certification
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
  • Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families

Responsibilities
