About The Position

Requirements

• Current Registered Professional Nurse license in New York State.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
• Fluent written and spoken English language skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Carry out patient care responsibilities using clinical decision-making throughout the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Provide safe, competent, and compassionate care in accordance with NYU Langone Health patient care and nursing standards.
• Formulate and implement patient-centered plans of care in collaboration with providers, patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Collect, assess, and document patient healthcare data, including assessments and reassessments in medical records.
• Prioritize care based on collected data and implement interventions safely, appropriately, and in a timely manner, using the escalation process when needed.
• Consider the needs and behaviors of different patient age and cultural groups in patient care activities.
• Educate patients and families about health status and the plan of care; determine learning needs, implement education plans, document outcomes, and revise plans as appropriate.
• Evaluate patient progress toward expected outcomes, recognize changes in condition, report and document findings, and assess intervention effectiveness with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in unit activities that support a healing, humane, and caring environment and contribute to unit throughput efficiencies and metrics.
• Comply with unit and organizational professional standards, the New York State Nurse Practice Act, and applicable external agency and regulatory requirements.
• Use appropriate judgment in delegated activities and distinguish professional nursing activities from those that may be delegated to ancillary staff.
• Complete annual education and mandatory or regulatory requirements.
• Serve as a support and resource for nursing staff and students.
• Engage in self-assessment and peer review, use resources to meet learning needs, and promote professional development in clinical practice.
• Adhere to patient care and nursing standards and use clinical practice guidelines.
• Attend unit practice councils and use the practice council structure to critically appraise and influence practice.
