Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. They are primarily located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work. Relief veterinarians can schedule shifts online with no minimum or maximum shift requirement, choose from weekday and weekend hours, and set their own rate for each shift. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and Petco charges no agency fees. Petco also provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.
