About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts that suit their lifestyle. There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practicing outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained. Relief shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
- A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during assigned relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
