About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling with no minimum or maximum shift requirements, weekday and weekend shift options, and the ability to set a rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts and do not pay agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle operational tasks so veterinarians can focus on care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement, but do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, with equipment including digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work. Illinois state bid rates average $131.00–$164.00 per hour; rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including drawing blood and administering vaccines.
- A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
