About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. This position is for Vetco Total Care in Pekin, Illinois. Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery. Relief shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work. Veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and are not charged agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time, while staff handles hospital operations. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
- DEA registration in good standing for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals, including preventive care and diagnostic workups.
- Perform outpatient surgeries and dental procedures as appropriate to the shift.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable state-specific licensing requirements, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
