About The Position
Vetco Total Care Hospitals, a division of Petco, is seeking an independent veterinary contractor to provide relief veterinary care. Veterinarians select shifts through flexible online booking, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required, and set their rate for each selected shift. Weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians may continue other practice activities outside their Vetco shifts, with no agency fees. Relief shifts include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Before shifts, the veterinarian partners with the area medical director to review case comfort levels. Hospital staff manage operations so the veterinarian can focus on patient care. Hospitals are equipped with digital patient records, a surgical suite, Butterfly IQ+ handheld ultrasound imaging, digital and dental X-ray, Vetology Radiograph Interpretation AI, and on-site labs. There are no overnight duties or emergency on-call requirements. Illinois state bid rates average $135–$146 per hour. Shift rates may vary based on clinic location and selected shift duration.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions.
- DEA registration in good standing.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures during relief shifts.
- Partner with the area medical director before shifts to review comfort levels for cases.
