About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services relief veterinarians may work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling with weekday and weekend shifts, no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and the ability to set a rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue other practice activities outside Petco shifts, and no agency fees apply. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures. Trained, experienced staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive monthly clinic updates and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Colorado state bid rates average $89.00–$112.00 per hour; shift rates may vary based on clinic location and selected shift duration.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement as applicable.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform the functions of the selected shift in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
