About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose available weekday and weekend shifts that suit their lifestyle. There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, veterinarians may set their own rate for each shift, and they may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts without agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Colorado state bid rates average $89.00–$112.00 per hour. Shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
- Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform all shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
