About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role uses flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians choose their shifts and set their own rate, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time. Trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostics, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, with equipment including digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Relief veterinarians also receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At Vaccination Clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
