About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling with weekday and weekend shifts, no minimum or maximum shift requirements, and the ability to set a rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians receive monthly updates about clinic news, policy changes, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals are equipped with digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- At Vetco Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
