About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians flexible work across Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Scheduling is online, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work.

The role requires a veterinarian with a state license in good standing, applicable state-specific licensing for shift duties, and professional liability insurance with a license defense policy. A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care hospitals. Applicants must comply with local, state, and federal mandates.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals, depending on the shift.
• Perform shift duties consistent with applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
