About The Position
The Tumor Registrar identifies, abstracts, reports, and maintains relevant data for patients treated for cancer using a cancer registry data system in a timely manner. The role also establishes other cancer and hematology disease registries as needed by Texas Children's Hospital and disseminates information in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, HIPAA, and organizational policy.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or a related field, or two years of cancer registry or related experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- One of the following credentials: RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), CTR (Certified Tumor Registrar), or ODS (Oncology Data Specialist).
- Successful candidates must undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Nice To Haves
- ODS certification (Oncology Data Specialist).
- Tumor Registry experience.
Responsibilities
- Identify cancer and hematology disease cases.
- Abstract relevant patient data.
- Report data for cancer and hematology disease registries.
- Assist with cancer- and hematology-related studies.
- Manage the database for all Texas Children's Hospital disease registries.
