About The Position

Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Fleet Technician. The Fleet Technician I reports to the Fleet Supervisor. The primary job duties of this position include: Inspect, maintain, and repair all aspects of a wide variety of gasoline/diesel powered automotive equipment such as automobiles, light trucks, and other gasoline/diesel powered specialized equipment. Diagnose and repair new on-board computer systems and sub-systems relating to electrical, fuel supply systems, and hydraulic systems, including master cylinder and proportioning valves, engine cooling systems, including radiators, heater cores and hoses, and comfort control systems, including heating and air conditioning. The Fleet Technician II reports to the Fleet Supervisor. The primary job duties of this position include: Inspect, maintain, and repair all aspects of a wide variety of gasoline/diesel-powered automotive equipment, such as automobiles, light trucks, and other gasoline/diesel-powered specialized equipment. Diagnose and repair all sub-systems on a diverse variety of vehicles and equipment used to support a municipal government. These may include brakes, suspension, steering, powertrain management, electrical systems, climate control, engine, powertrain, and aftermarket systems, including police equipment. Inspect, maintain, and repair all aspects of a wide variety of gasoline/diesel-powered heavy equipment vehicles. Primary focus on heavy truck systems including A/C, air brake systems, high pressure hydraulic systems, power train, drive line, refuse truck control and operation systems, all fire truck mechanical and electronic control systems, street sweeper control systems, computerized power train systems and electrical systems, as well as on-vehicle CNG fuel system repairs and maintenance. Weld, grind, and cut with torch to perform repairs and fabrication of parts to facilitate repairs and improvements of vehicles. These positions are FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation. Please note, depending on experience and certification/s, a candidate may be brought in as a Fleet Technician II. The salary range listed in the posting is the minimum range for a Fleet Technician I and the maximum range for a Fleet Technician II.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience as a professional mechanic (for Fleet Technician I).
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Must possess own hand tools required to perform the functions of the job.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) (for Fleet Technician II).
  • Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to 5 years as a journeyman-level mechanic, including at least 1-year heavy-duty equipment maintenance or repair (for Fleet Technician II).
  • 4 years of experience as a professional mechanic, with demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and repairing a variety of automotive systems (for Fleet Technician II).
  • 1 year of experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty trucks and equipment in a private or public sector service facility (for Fleet Technician II).
  • Must be able to workday or evening shift, on-call as required and overtime when necessary (for Fleet Technician II).

Nice To Haves

  • One ASE/EVT (or obtain within 12 months of hire) (for Fleet Technician I).
  • At least 2 Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) medium/heavy truck certifications or EVT certifications (possess or obtain within 6 months of hire) (for Fleet Technician II).
  • Arizona Department of Environmental Quality diesel and non-diesel emissions tester certification (possess or obtain within 6 months of hire) (for Fleet Technician II).
