About The Position

Forsyth County's General Services Department is searching for a qualified candidate to fill the Automotive Parts Technician position. This position oversees the inventory and organization of all automotive parts, tires, fluids, and supplies. The Automotive Parts Technician assists automotive services in supporting maintenance and repair technicians with parts and supplies related to the automotive field system. The Automotive Parts Technician performs a variety of work pertaining to parts ordering and inventory. Completes a variety of administrative duties at the direction of the Fleet Supervisor. Coordinates parts procurement and inventory management. Checks quantity and quality of items received against invoices and reports discrepancies, unpacks and stores items, issues stock and tools to various individuals, orders and processes inventory and non-stocked parts which includes purchasing inventory and non-stocked items with a purchasing card, takes periodic inventory, keeps clerical records as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1 year experience in parts inventory/ordering
  • Must be able to obtain ASE certification in automotive parts related area within 2 years of employment
  • Must have a valid N.C. driver's license
  • Basic automotive repair knowledge
  • Ability to count and inspect a variety of materials accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to drive light automotive equipment.
  • Must be able to utilize a computer, pallet jack, and forklift.

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge of modern storeroom and inventory practices.
  • Some experience in the repair of automotive equipment, parts counter sales, inventory management and customer service.
  • ASE certifications in 1 area related to parts or service or obtain within two years of employment.
  • Experience with government agency or as a supplier to a government agency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the inventory and organization of all automotive parts, tires, fluids, and supplies.
  • Assists automotive services in supporting maintenance and repair technicians with parts and supplies related to the automotive field system.
  • Performs a variety of work pertaining to parts ordering and inventory.
  • Completes a variety of administrative duties at the direction of the Fleet Supervisor.
  • Coordinates parts procurement and inventory management.
  • Checks quantity and quality of items received against invoices and reports discrepancies.
  • Unpacks and stores items.
  • Issues stock and tools to various individuals.
  • Orders and processes inventory and non-stocked parts which includes purchasing inventory and non-stocked items with a purchasing card.
  • Takes periodic inventory.
  • Keeps clerical records as required.
  • Procurement of automotive parts to include OEM parts, non-OEM parts, tires, fluids, equipment, tools, supplies, and other as-needed items. This task may include picking up parts from local vendors if the vendor will not deliver.
  • Inventory management to include receiving parts, verifying accuracy of items received against what was ordered, stocking of items in the stockroom, inputting of items into FMIS/CMMS for tracking, and maintaining an organized stockroom.
  • Distribution of parts to automotive technicians to include review of items requested by technicians, picking of items needed, issuance of individual parts to automotive technicians, inputting of parts used in FMIS/CMMS.
  • Administrative tasks to include review of invoices for accuracy, tracking of items in FMIS/CMMS system, research of parts, communicating with vendors regarding discrepancies on invoices to find resolution.
  • Performs related work as required.
