About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Erie is seeking to hire Swim Instructors and Swim Instructor Aides. This role involves providing swimming and water safety instruction to students of all ages, maintaining positive relationships with members and participants, ensuring a positive and enriching experience, and maintaining constant supervision of students. The position requires completing progress reports, acting as a role model, implementing program activities with different age groups, and keeping records up to date. The role also involves attending and participating in all required training and in-service events. The Swim Instructor position pays $10.98-$16.48/hour depending on experience, and the Swim Instructor Assistant position pays $8.00 - $13.87/hour depending on experience. The typical work schedule is 5-40 hours per week depending on availability.

Requirements

  • At least 16 years of age (for Swim Instructor)
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen within 60 days of hire date (for Swim Instructor)
  • YMCA Swim Instructor Certification or equivalent / Certification class coming in May (for Swim Instructor)
  • Must demonstrate Swim Instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards (for Swim Instructor)
  • Required to get Act 33, Act 34 and FBI clearances (for Swim Instructor)
  • New Employee Orientation- YUSA, Mandated Reporter, and child abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date (for Swim Instructor)
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening (for Swim Instructor)
  • Minimum age 15 years old (for Swim Instructor Assistant)
  • Show proficiency in 4 of 6 strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, side stroke, butterfly and elementary backstroke) (for Swim Instructor Assistant)
  • Good human relation skills (for Swim Instructor Assistant)
  • Patient and able to recognize distress signals (for Swim Instructor Assistant)
