The Yard Supervisor will receive direction from Production Supervisors, Production Manager, Production Superintendent and Process Engineers and will be responsible for supervising all hourly employees in the yard crew. This role involves advising the Production Superintendent on equipment, personnel, and safety issues, and directly supervising both hourly and contract laborers. The supervisor will investigate and report all accidents, promote safe working and good housekeeping habits, and maintain current knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and company policies. A key aspect of the role is to foster a cost and profit-conscious attitude among employees. The position oversees all equipment and personnel involved in maintaining the grounds around production areas, directs the removal of process spills and leaks, and ensures the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and all plant property, including streets inside the plant. Additionally, the supervisor is responsible for the care and maintenance of small mobile equipment such as bobcats, sweepers, and pick-up trucks, as well as hand tools used for plant housekeeping. Daily operating decisions include scheduling overtime, writing work requests and orders, and reporting maintenance issues. The role also involves supporting production operations with yard personnel as needed, conducting close supervision, gauging progress, and providing training to all employees. Any other activities requested by the production superintendent and management that are consistent with this job classification and not included above may also be assigned.
