About The Position

Requirements

• Either a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area and 5 years of experience in software engineering or a related area; or 7 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
• Hands-on experience building production streaming and batch pipelines with Kafka, including partitioning, retries, dead-letter queues, and idempotency, and with BigQuery and SQL.
• Strong Java experience, including Spring Boot 3.x and Java 17 or 21, REST API design, and relational data such as PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing distributed, cloud-native services.
• A record of leading architecture across teams, writing design documents or ADRs, and mentoring engineers at staff level.
• Ability to apply model-driven design and leverage AI agents to enhance software solutions.
• Working knowledge of TypeScript, Node.js, and React for internal tools and admin UIs.
• Cloud-native delivery experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD, canary or progressive delivery, secrets management, and observability, including metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience with Airflow or Spark/Dataproc-style batch workflows.
• Testing experience spanning unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, as well as contract and load testing.

• A master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area and 3 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
• Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, digital accessibility best practices, and inclusive product design.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end mGPS/Compass data flow from SDK and service events through streaming and batch pipelines to analytics and associate and engineering tools.
• Lead technical design and architecture, including decomposing large services into well-bounded domain services and managing safe, incremental migrations.
• Write and review production code across data pipelines, backend services, and lightweight web tools, setting the team’s quality bar.
• Partner with product teams, positioning vendors, and partner-app teams to turn indoor positioning data into measurable operational outcomes.
• Drive reliability, performance, cost efficiency, observability, privacy compliance, and on-call health.
• Deliver scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and cloud-native platform architectures aligned with strategic roadmaps.
• Architect and implement AI-enhanced applications and intelligent systems with real-time data processing capabilities.
• Improve scale and performance, including Kafka partitioning and throughput, API latency, caching strategy, and BigQuery pipeline cost.
• Coordinate SDK contracts, SLAs, rollout plans, and incident response with product, vendor, and partner-app teams.
• Improve operational excellence through observability, alerting, canary deployments, runbooks, change-management practices, and on-call health.
• Design, build, and operate pipelines that move Compass event data from Kafka into BigQuery and analytics, keeping them reliable, cost-efficient, and privacy-compliant.
• Write and review Java backend and React/TypeScript code for services and tools that expose data.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and improve monitoring, alerting, and runbooks.
