Software Engineer (Backend)

Cisco•Seattle, WA
•$138,100 - $256,000

About The Position

The Platform Experience Backend team builds APIs and durable workflows for Splunk's data management products. The team enables customers to route, transform, and process data at the edge and in the cloud, and to store and query data at scale in a modern data lake. The role contributes to emerging big data products for AI workflows and addresses complex distributed-systems challenges in a collaborative hybrid/remote environment based in Seattle. The engineer designs, builds, and operates customer-facing REST APIs and Go backend services, including services supporting complex, long-running operations at scale. They lead small-to-medium features from technical design through implementation, testing, review, and production; take ownership of production services; contribute to on-call shifts and postmortems; and help maintain high engineering standards through secure, well-tested code and thoughtful reviews. The role also involves cross-functional collaboration and mentoring junior engineers and interns.

Requirements

  • Experience with a backend language such as Golang, Java, C++, Python, or similar.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating REST APIs and backend services in production.
  • Experience with data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production debugging.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical decisions to diverse stakeholders in design documents and in person.
  • Experience with high-volume data pipelines, streaming technologies, data lakes, or SQL.
  • Distributed systems experience, such as workflow orchestration, durable jobs, or long-running operations.
  • Enthusiasm for using AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle and accountability for AI-assisted output.
