Medical Laboratory Scientist I- HLA

About The Position
The Medical Laboratory Scientist I works under the supervision and direction of the HLA laboratory supervisor. The role performs technical procedures in the HLA laboratory, including HLA typing using rSSO and next-generation sequencing methods, Luminex-based HLA antibody identification, and donor/recipient flow cytometric cross-matching. The position also involves maintaining instrumentation, identifying and reporting instrument malfunctions, assisting with instrument repair, recognizing abnormal or discrepant results, and participating to a limited extent in student teaching, assisting personnel rotating through the section, and administrative duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology.
- ASCP certification or certification from another accrediting agency, or eligibility for certification; certification must be obtained within one year of employment.

- ASCP certification.
- Previous HLA experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform HLA typing using rSSO and next-generation sequencing methods.
- Perform Luminex-based HLA antibody identification.
- Perform donor/recipient flow cytometric cross-matching.
- Keep laboratory instrumentation in good working order.
- Identify instrument malfunctions and notify the supervisor or lead technician.
- Assist with instrument repair.
- Identify abnormal or discrepant results.
- Participate to a limited extent in student teaching and assist personnel rotating through the section.
- Perform limited administrative duties.
