About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I works under the supervision and direction of the HLA laboratory supervisor. The role performs technical procedures in the HLA laboratory, including HLA typing using rSSO and next-generation sequencing methods, Luminex-based HLA antibody identification, and donor/recipient flow cytometric cross-matching.

The position also involves maintaining instrumentation, identifying and reporting instrument malfunctions, assisting with instrument repair, recognizing abnormal or discrepant results, and participating to a limited extent in student teaching, assisting personnel rotating through the section, and administrative duties.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology.
• ASCP certification or certification from another accrediting agency, or eligibility for certification; certification must be obtained within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform limited administrative duties.
