Medical Laboratory Scientist I
About The Position
Quest Diagnostics is recruiting a Medical Laboratory Scientist I for its Clinical Laboratory – Microbiology General department in Clifton, New Jersey. The position is scheduled Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The role performs laboratory testing and supports accurate, reliable reporting of patient results in accordance with laboratory procedures and applicable regulatory and safety guidelines. The listed pay range is $27.95–$46.12 per hour. The employee may be eligible for a shift differential of 10% for some or all second-shift hours and 15% for some or all third-shift hours; further details are provided if an offer is extended. Salary offers consider relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market factors, and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation.
Requirements
- One year of clinical experience in high-complexity testing is preferred.
- Education must meet one of the listed pathways: a BS in Medical Technology; a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology; an associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; or prior qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.

Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
- Review and release test results.
- Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
- Follow established laboratory policies and procedures when test systems are outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting, correct them, or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
