About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in physics, Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of related RSO or RPM experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certification as a Radiation Safety Officer or progress towards formal training certification. NRRPT or CHP is helpful.
• Must be vetted Trustworthy and Reliable, observing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, PA Department of Environmental Protection and the Churchill Site Access Authorization Program.
• Familiarization or experience working in a research laboratory setting with the presence of chemical, biological, or radiological hazards.
• Demonstrated experience communicating technical information to multiple audiences is necessary.
• Respond to emergencies involving radiological hazards.
• Ability to pass drug and alcohol screening.
• 10CFR Part 61 calculations and decisions
• 10CFR Part 37 experience
• Radiological Waste Shipping qualifications (49CFR including IATA)
• NESHAPS/RCRA/CERCLA experience
• Internal/external dosimetry experience (calculations and investigations)
• Special Nuclear Material/NMSS reporting
• Decommissioning
• American Nuclear Insurer experience (as an insured)
• Shielding design/calculations/application of shielding to reduce exposure
• X-ray/accelerator/RGD experience

Nice To Haves

• NRRPT or CHP is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Steward the site's Broad Scope Radioactive Materials Program, Accelerator Program, and Radiation Generating Device Program.
• Perform preliminary reviews of proposed new uses and users of radioactive materials and formally discuss the proposal with the RSC for approval.
• Perform audits of all areas of use and individuals who are authorized to use byproduct material to ensure work is done observing the license, regulations, and user permit conditions.
• Steward the Emergency Response Program
• Steward the Environmental Monitoring Program as applicable
• Manage the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) team
• Help manage the non-ionizing radiation safety program
• Provide guidance to the radiation protection and environmental safety technicians
• Monitor main performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement changes.
