About The Position

Amir Specialty Poultry (ASP) is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the establishment of the maintenance function in their new, federally licensed facility in Arthur, Ontario. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for commissioning equipment, building and managing a maintenance team, developing a preventive maintenance framework, and ensuring peak operational reliability. The Maintenance Manager will report to the Plant Manager and be a key member of the senior leadership team, playing a critical role in bringing the facility to life from its earliest stages. The ideal candidate is passionate about operational uptime, team building, and making a significant impact on a new operation.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in maintenance management or a senior maintenance leadership role, preferably within a food, beverage, or related manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading a multi-trade maintenance team, including millwrights, electricians, and general maintenance technicians.
  • Hands-on experience commissioning industrial processing equipment and establishing preventive maintenance programs in a new or significantly expanded facility.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and refrigeration systems as applied in a food or poultry processing environment.
  • Familiarity with CFIA facility requirements and food-safe equipment sanitary design standards; experience in a federally inspected facility is a significant asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario occupational health and safety regulations (OHSA) and ability to lead a team that operates safely under all conditions.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) or equivalent work order and asset management platforms.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across a fast-moving build environment.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work effectively with trades staff, plant leadership, contractors, and equipment suppliers.

  • Holders of a 433A (Industrial Millwright) or 442A (Industrial Electrician) Red Seal trade licence will be given greater consideration for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all maintenance-related activities during the facility build-out phase, including coordination with contractors, equipment suppliers, and the Plant Manager to ensure installations meet operational and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive asset registry and equipment documentation library for all mechanical, electrical, and utility systems within the facility.
  • Oversee the commissioning and validation of all processing equipment, refrigeration systems, conveyance systems, and plant utilities prior to production start-up.
  • Establish the facility’s preventive maintenance (PM) program from the ground up, including PM schedules, work order systems, and spare parts inventory management.
  • Recruit, onboard, and build a skilled maintenance team, including a Licensed Millwright (433A), a Licensed Electrician (442A), and Maintenance Technicians, scaling the team in alignment with the facility’s commissioning and operational ramp-up timeline.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, mentorship, and skills development to all direct reports, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Set clear performance expectations and productivity standards for the maintenance team, conducting regular check-ins and formal performance reviews.
  • Ensure all team members are trained and current on applicable safety certifications, regulatory requirements, and facility-specific procedures.
  • Own the facility’s preventive maintenance calendar, ensuring all equipment is serviced on schedule to minimize unplanned downtime and extend asset life.
  • Respond to and prioritize corrective maintenance work orders, coordinating technician deployment to resolve breakdowns efficiently and safely.
  • Implement a continuous improvement mindset across maintenance operations, tracking mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and other key reliability metrics.
  • Partner with the FSQA Manager to ensure all maintenance and sanitation activities comply with food safety requirements, including hygiene standards for equipment and facility systems.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with applicable Ontario and federal occupational health and safety legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and associated regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with CFIA facility standards as they relate to equipment condition, sanitary design, and plant infrastructure.
  • Oversee contractor and vendor management for specialized maintenance, repairs, and capital projects, ensuring all third-party work meets facility safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready maintenance records for all equipment, repairs, inspections, and certifications.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager to align maintenance scheduling with production demands, minimizing operational disruption while maximizing equipment availability.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager on capital expenditure planning, equipment upgrades, and long-term facility improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Supply Chain on spare parts procurement, vendor relationships, and inventory management to ensure critical components are always available.
  • Support the FSQA team by ensuring all equipment and systems meet food-safe sanitary design requirements and that maintenance activities do not compromise product integrity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
