About The Position

The Office of Medical Education (OME) at the University of Colorado's School of Medicine (SOM) is seeking a Specialty Liaison for its Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) curriculum. This role is part of a larger curriculum overhaul where core clinical education is now delivered in a longitudinal, integrated fashion, primarily in an outpatient setting, with targeted hospital-based training called immersions during the core clinical year. The curriculum covers core competencies in the care of adults, children, and pregnant patients, taught by providers from various disciplines including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, surgery, and emergency medicine. The LIC model is built on three key principles: student participation in comprehensive patient care over time, a continuous learning relationship with patient clinicians, and meeting core clinical competencies through ongoing experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight and coordination of inpatient immersion experiences for all LIC students enrolled in the LIC site.
  • Develop protocols and systems to facilitate longitudinal patient care for students, including assisting with follow-up for patients admitted to inpatient treatment or referred to specialty care.
  • Recruitment and oversight of preceptors who work longitudinally with students.
  • Provide ongoing education to faculty and housestaff about student roles in patient care and best practices for teaching LIC students.
  • Provide ongoing faculty development to preceptors regarding longitudinal precepting, mentoring, and assessment skills.
  • Collaborate closely with Clinical Core Directors (CCDs) to ensure LIC students achieve competency and comparability in all required domain aspects of the clerkship.
