About The Position

The Physical Therapy Aide serves both in-patients and out-patients requiring Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy Services. This role involves providing prompt and effective assistance to therapists, maintaining and cleaning equipment and treatment areas, and ensuring customer needs are met through efficient phone skills and information relay. The aide supports the hospital's mission, values, strategic plan, and departmental philosophy.

Requirements

  • No previous experience required
  • CPR certification (must be obtained within six months of start date if not already held)

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Previous experience in a similar work setting or work experience requiring the utilization and demonstration of communication skills
  • Prior computer experience knowledge especially specific to Microsoft Word, Windows, Microsoft Excel, Meditech, or data entry

Responsibilities

  • Use common sense and special clinical skills to care for the sick or handicapped with regard to the patients age and diagnosis.
  • Supports hospital mission and values statement, strategic plan and vision, and department service statement and department philosophy.
  • Assists therapists with patient treatments to improve efficiency and effectiveness, including but not limited to: assisting in treatments (hot packs, cryotherapy, exercise supervision, monitoring vital signs, ambulation and transfer training, dressing changes), setting up equipment (US, electrical stimulation, vasopneumatic compression, assistive devices, sterile fields), assisting patients with dressing, preparing patients for treatment (positioning), delivering equipment to in-house patients, and acting as a liaison between patient and therapist.
  • Assists with front office tasks including: patient chart preparation, entering patient charges, monitoring computer in-patient orders and initiating proper paperwork, pulling up computer information for therapists, filing, completing and following up on paperwork for rental units/devices/supports/insurance verification, copying/faxing, ordering and stocking department supplies, and miscellaneous office tasks.
  • Displays excellent guest relations and telephone etiquette with all patients and customers, greeting visitors, patients, and personnel positively and promptly, ascertaining their business, and referring to the appropriate person or department.
  • Efficiently and effectively keeps treatment areas, equipment, and supplies neat, clean, and organized, following routine cleaning and maintenance schedules, and monitoring/stocking inventory of medical supplies and linens.
  • Transports in-patients to and from therapy departments for treatment when necessary.
  • Observes patients during treatment and notifies therapist of any distress or at the completion of treatment, and notifies therapist of any malfunctioning equipment.
  • Participates in mandatory orientation, monthly meetings, and inservice training related to the position.
  • Responsible for clinical development of self and facilitates teamwork intra- and inter-departmentally.
