About The Position

Organizes and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy programs to restore function, prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of a body part, and help patients reach maximum performance levels. Plans therapy involving physical exercise, massage, heat, water, etc. Utilizes various mechanical and electrical equipment and prosthetic and orthotic devices. Evaluates, records and reports on patient's progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, M.S. in Physical Therapy or Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT)
  • Physical Therapist License.
  • BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs physical therapy assessment and evaluations, on a daily basis, on-going reassessment and administers physical therapy treatments to patients in conjunction with a licensed health care practitioner authorized to prescribe treatment.
  • Implement, on a daily basis, treatment modalities which may include exercises, heat, light, ultrasound, water, electricity, massage, gait raining, balance training and other rehabilitation techniques.
  • Provides, on a daily basis, for patient and family education, including but not limited to exercise programs and assistance in understanding and participation in physical therapy goal setting.
  • Uses, on a daily basis, a multidisciplinary approach in executing patient treatment. Coordinates with Social Services/Discharge Planning, Nursing and Physicians to provide in patient's timely discharge and continuation of treatment upon hospital discharge.
  • Direct, on a daily basis, departmental support personnel.
  • Prepares, on a daily basis, schedules for inpatients and outpatients.
  • Attends hospital and department inservice programs as required.
  • Assists the Director in developing and implementation of a Quality Improvement Program in Physical Therapy.
  • Performs educational inservices for both department and hospital staff.
  • Attends continuing education programs outside the Hospital to maintain professional competence.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
