About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support certification is required within six months of hire or transfer, or by 6/1/23 for existing Patient Safety Companion staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care as a nursing team member by performing tasks directed by the nurse for patients requiring close observation.
• Help maintain patient safety and follow infection-control policies, including hand hygiene and isolation precautions.
• Provide comfort measures and therapeutic activities as directed by the nurse, including assistance with vision and hearing aids, sleep and noise reduction, orientation, ambulation, and toileting.
• Review the written care plan and shift tasks with the nurse; receive and give handoff reports to the primary nurse; communicate special care needs; and report unusual conditions, concerns, or complaints to the primary nurse or management.
• Assist with safe patient transfers between stretchers or wheelchairs and beds or chairs, using appropriate transfer techniques, assistive devices, and proper body mechanics.
• Transport patients within the hospital using safe transfer techniques, two patient identifiers, and a ticket to ride.
• Use Vocera and Zebra/IPOD devices appropriately while protecting patient privacy.
• Support continuity of care through effective working relationships and appropriate interaction with staff, patients, families, and providers.
• Deliver requested equipment, such as pumps, wheelchairs, venodynes, VMS, and feeding pumps, to nursing floors within 15 minutes of the request.
• Transport stretchers and other equipment to hospital departments.
• Maintain and model Nuvance Health values.
• Demonstrate regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as required.
