About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition.
• At least 2 years of clinical experience.
• Registered dietitian (RD) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred.
• Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) credential from the NYS Department of Education Office of the Professions is encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients’ nutritional status using information from the electronic medical record and interdisciplinary healthcare team, applying nutrition screening and assessment to determine patient needs.
• Advance practice in the clinical focus area through education and skill development.
• Conduct nutrition-focused physical examinations to determine risk or degree of malnutrition.
• Document pertinent findings in the medical record according to policy.
• Maintain daily productivity, annual competencies, and required documentation of direct and indirect patient-care functions, submitting them to the direct supervisor on time.
• Meet department productivity benchmarks.
• Provide nutrition counseling to patients, family members, and caregivers as indicated.
• Evaluate nutrition care plans for effectiveness and recommend changes, adapting guidelines, protocols, and professional standards to patients’ changing needs.
• Evaluate the need for enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
• Obtain patients’ food preferences, confirm allergies, communicate with the diet office as needed, and conduct meal rounds.
• Work collaboratively with the Food Service Department to meet patient needs and comply with therapeutic diets.
• Communicate with healthcare team members, including participating in interdisciplinary rounds and discharge planning rounds.
• Instruct dietetic interns on required rotation competencies; review and revise internship materials and resources; and complete student evaluations.
• Assist department leadership with training and developing clinical nutrition staff.
• Participate in departmental projects, nutrition-related in-services, interdepartmental nutrition programs, lectures, and community-focused programs.
• Support department leadership in organizing projects and activities and participate in external speaking events to promote service and education.
• Assist with developing and updating nutrition education materials.
• Communicate effectively with peers and supervisors and incorporate feedback for clinical development.
• Comply with hospital and regulatory guidelines and policies.
• Work rotating weekends and holidays.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
