About The Position
Suncoast Hospice, part of Empath Health, is seeking an experienced registered nurse to guide newly licensed nurses as they transition from academic study to clinical hospice practice. The position supports the development of residents’ competency, confidence, and comfort in meeting the needs of patients and families at the end of life. The Clinical Instructor participates in developing, delivering, evaluating, and updating the nurse residency curriculum to meet applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements and incorporate evidence-based practice and organizational initiatives. The role leads clinical facilitation at a designated program location, monitors residents’ competencies, satisfaction, and well-being, and provides mentoring, coaching, role modeling, and feedback to support their professional growth. Suncoast Hospice serves communities across Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Empath Health is a not-for-profit healthcare organization delivering services throughout Florida, including hospice, home health, grief care, geriatric primary care, elder care, HIV and sexual health, and dementia support.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved nursing program.
- Current, unrestricted RN licensure in Florida.
- BSN required.
- 3–5 years of clinical education experience.
- 2 years of hospice experience.
- Experience as a Certified Preceptor, or willingness to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- CHPN certification, or willingness to obtain it within 2 years of hire.
- Experience with electronic medical record documentation.
- Experience with the Pyxis administration system.

Responsibilities
- Promote the hospice organization’s mission and values and adhere to established policies, procedures, and professional standards in nursing practice.
- Participate in developing and delivering a nurse residency curriculum that meets CMS, AHCA, CHAP, and ANCC-PTAP requirements and instills relevant standards and competencies in newly licensed nurses.
- Continuously evaluate and update the residency curriculum to integrate evidence-based practice, regulatory requirements, and organizational strategic initiatives.
- Lead clinical facilitation efforts at a designated clinical location for the nurse residency program.
- Track and analyze nurse residents’ competency attainment, satisfaction, and well-being, and present findings to the director of the nurse residency program.
- Mentor, coach, and model best practices for nurse residents; assess their progress and provide feedback to support professional growth and transition to competent practice.
