About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for performing and supporting the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department.

Requirements

  • Proof of completion of high school with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or completion of General Educational Development (GED) with a minimum overall score of 162.5.
  • Health care related knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program.
  • Two years of experience and knowledge of pharmacy processes and practices, typically learned on the job or successful completion of a pharmacy externship with Family HealthCare Network.
  • Ability to prepare more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs and other elements.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to review and compile data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
  • Ability to create basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Licensed in the state of California as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Job duties require the compilation of information prepared in effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation.
  • Effectively conveys technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • If an individual has completed a degree at a higher level than required by the role and had a stronger GPA in that program, they may provide proof of GPA from that degree in lieu of the high school diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing prescriptions for Pharmacist’s final verification, including receiving E-script orders and new prescriptions, verifying patient information, entering/reviewing data into the Pharmacy Practice Management System, processing labels, contacting prescribers for refill approval/denial, selecting appropriate product, counting/measuring/pouring medication, verifying prescription label information, presenting hard copy prescriptions for final review, placing filled prescriptions on shelves, completing and processing third-party documents and transmissions, and checking/processing phone or fax messages.
  • Keeping the Pharmacy work areas clean and organized.
  • Filing paperwork and prescriptions under supervision.
  • Operating cash register during patient prescription pick up, processing cash and credit card transactions, and obtaining patient signatures for insurance log documentation.
  • Keeping Pharmacist informed of warning or Drug Utilization Review (DUR) screens, prescriptions requiring Pharmacist consultation, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring prescriptions in the wait area, including checking fill dates, running will call reports, removing old prescriptions, returning medications to stock, and reversing orders online.
  • Delivering medications and prescriptions to other sites and maintaining accurate delivery logs.
  • Monitoring medication stock levels as directed by pharmacist, including processing incoming medication orders, comparing shipped items to ordered items, affixing price stickers, placing items on shelves or in refrigerator, checking stock expiration dates, rotating or removing items, returning outdated/expired/damaged/overstock/recalled merchandise, and assisting with inventory.
  • Adhering to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy.
  • Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location, both at the beginning of a shift or during a shift, based on business need.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
