About The Position

UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA is actively seeking a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) to join their growing team of exceptional laboratory professionals. Requirements

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an accredited Medical Lab Scientist program
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent categorical or MLT certification
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
  • Medical Lab Technician: Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
  • Medical Lab Technician: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience
  • Medical Lab Technician: Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing
  • New York license required for NY locations.
  • Act 34

  • Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process specimens for analysis following established protocols for precision, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Identify and follow up on critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results according to predefined procedures.
  • Troubleshoot problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results, and implement solutions based on predetermined protocols.
  • Participate in test development, methodology evaluation, and equipment selection and implementation.
  • Perform and document quality control procedures in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Inform supervisors or pathologists promptly of any incidents or issues encountered.
  • Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
  • Enter patient demographic and test information accurately into the laboratory information system.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality in accordance with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory supplies, ensuring availability and proper storage.
