About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist processes and tests laboratory specimens, reviews and reports laboratory results, and performs operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment. The role serves as a resource to other laboratory personnel. Additional responsibilities include assisting with new equipment validation and implementation, employee training and competency assessment, regulatory compliance for CAP, TCJ, AABB, or other agencies, and quality assurance, quality control, and instrument maintenance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university and/or graduation from an accredited school of medical technology, or an equivalent qualification such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or qualification at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on an HHS examination before 2/28/92 under 42 CFR 493.1491. These criteria meet CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing.
Two years as a medical technologist in an acute care facility, or one year as a medical technologist in an acute care facility and a master’s degree.
Registration with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire.
For non-US-trained personnel, an equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES, or AICE must be completed within 30 days of hire.
State licensure, as required.

Responsibilities

Process and test all types of laboratory specimens.
Review and report laboratory results.
Perform operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
Act as a resource to other laboratory personnel.
Assist with new equipment validation and implementation.
Provide employee training and competency assessment.
Fulfill regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB, or other agencies.
Perform quality assurance, quality control, and instrument maintenance.
