Medical Lab Scientist (MLS)
About The Position
Performs a variety of laboratory tests on blood, tissue, and body fluids using automated and manual methods. Ensures accurate, timely reporting of laboratory test results to assist medical staff in patient care. Processes and tests laboratory specimens, reviews and reports results, and performs operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Serves as a resource to other laboratory personnel. Additional duties include assisting with new equipment validation and implementation, employee training and competency assessment, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, quality control, and instrument maintenance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree from an approved college or university and/or graduation from an accredited school of medical technology, or an accepted equivalent qualification such as military training under 42 CFR 493.1489 or qualification at the Medical Technologist level by a satisfactory HHS examination or equivalent before 2/28/92 under 42 CFR 493.1491.
- Meet CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing under 42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491.
- Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required.
Nice To Haves
- Six months to one year of experience as a medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute care facility.
Responsibilities
- Process and test all types of laboratory specimens.
- Review and report laboratory results accurately and on time.
- Perform operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Act as a resource to other laboratory personnel.
- Assist with new equipment validation and implementation.
- Assist with employee training and competency assessment.
- Fulfill regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB, or other agencies.
- Perform quality assurance, quality control, and instrument maintenance.
