About The Position

Requirements

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work, family counseling, or a comparable human relations discipline.
• Two years of experience relating to child development, family dynamics, or comparable areas.
• At least 40 hours of mediation-techniques training from a qualified instructor as determined by the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts; this training may be completed before or during employment.
• Knowledge of child development and family dynamics, mediation and negotiation techniques, case-management principles, report formulation, and time management.
• Skills in oral and written communication, analysis, conflict resolution, public speaking, and Microsoft Word.
• Ability to use neutral mediation techniques, assist parties in evaluating the impact of custody and visitation arrangements on children, maintain neutrality, assist in resolution, manage cases, draft parenting agreements, and use computer hardware and software.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Ability to use general office equipment, including computers, printers, and telephones.

Nice To Haves

• Fluency in Spanish.

• Knowledge of or experience in the court system.

Responsibilities

• Conduct orientation sessions to explain the custody mediation process to clients.
• Provide a structured, confidential, non-adversarial setting to facilitate cooperative resolution of custody and visitation disputes.
• Facilitate mediation sessions using neutral techniques to help parties reach agreements.
• Use knowledge of child development and family dynamics to assist parties in making decisions and evaluating the potential impact of arrangements on children.
• Assist parties in developing parenting agreements in the children’s best interests and draft the agreements.
• Interact with courts and the court community to foster confidence in custody mediation and provide accurate information.
• Perform administrative and case-management functions in Enterprise Justice.
• Manage cases and meet program goals in a timely manner.
• Maintain neutrality and diffuse threatening situations when necessary.
