About The Position

The Math Specialist will begin in the 2026-2027 school year at Hyannis West Elementary School. The primary goal of this position is to help provide an effective instruction and learning environment that enables each student to master mathematics skills appropriate to their age, grade level, and individual capacity.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts Certification in Elementary Mathematics preferred
  • Approximately 5 years of classroom teaching appropriate to level of position.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Meet the performance responsibility expectations of classroom teachers at appropriate grade levels.
  • Administer diagnostic tests and evaluate math skills of new students and others referred by staff.
  • Analyze school math test scores.
  • Work with classroom teachers and children in the school mathematics program.
  • Provide direct consultative help and training to staff.
  • Outside the regular classroom, teach individuals and small groups of children not able to succeed in the regular classroom math program.
  • Prepare and conduct in-service programs on math.
  • Orient new teachers to the math program of the school and assist as necessary.
  • Assist staff in selecting and evaluating materials for math.
  • Provide suggestions for enrichment programs in math for gifted/talented children.
  • Meet with parents/guardians to discuss the school’s math program.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in math techniques, materials, and evaluation and inform staff.
  • Attend appropriate math workshops and conventions.
  • Orient substitute teachers to the school’s math program and assist as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
