About The Position

This position is for a Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Summit County, Ohio. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responsible for building and maintaining the state's transportation infrastructure. This role involves serving the public by working to make Ohio roads safer, performing highway maintenance activities, and potentially attending training to obtain CDL licensure if not already licensed. The job includes tasks such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing, and participating in snow and ice operations. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction.
  • Ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • For Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions.
  • For Highway Technician 1: 3 months training or 3 months experience in operation of basic equipment.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
