MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (Head Start)

About The Position

The Maintenance Technician will support the delivery of high-quality maintenance services for Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms and facilities. Maintenance responsibilities include ensuring that facilities and related services comply with Head Start Program Performance Standards, licensing requirements, and other applicable federal and state regulations. The position will also provide custodial services for the program. Responsibilities include the maintenance and upkeep of all assigned facilities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of facility maintenance and operational practices.
  • Ability to identify areas in need of maintenance and respond promptly and effectively.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks and utilize available resources, materials, and tools.
  • Ability to clean facilities, including routine cleaning of common areas, restrooms, floors, and assigned spaces.
  • Ability to complete routine maintenance and cleaning duties at program centers and Central Office.
  • Ability to ensure major maintenance needs and requested repairs are completed as assigned.
  • Ability to document completed tasks using program-required forms.
  • Ability to assist with remodeling, repair, and refurbishment of office spaces, classrooms, and storage areas.
  • Ability to maintain current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure proper and safe storage of chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain and upkeep outdoor environments, including gardens, landscaped areas, playgrounds, outdoor structures, and parking areas.
  • Ability to conduct daily inspections of playgrounds, facilities, and buildings.
  • Ability to perform routine and thorough inspections of outdoor areas and playgrounds.
  • Ability to ensure agency machinery, tools, and equipment are properly maintained and stored safely.
  • Ability to assist with moving furniture, fixtures, and office equipment.
  • Ability to assemble furniture, equipment, and other items.
  • Availability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Availability for rotation among Head Start or Early Head Start centers based on operational needs.
  • Ability to follow a preventive maintenance schedule for outdoor areas.
  • Ability to take a lead role in identifying, reviewing, mitigating, and reporting leaks, moisture, and mold-related concerns.
  • Ability to ensure healthy and safe playground conditions.
  • Ability to assist with preparing centers prior to the beginning of the program year.
  • Ability to maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment and ensure timely replenishment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of facility maintenance and operational practices to ensure compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, licensing requirements, and applicable health and safety standards for all infants, toddlers, and children in the program.
  • Identify areas in need of maintenance and respond to those needs promptly and effectively.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks and effectively utilize available resources, materials, and tools to complete assigned work.
  • Clean all facilities for which the position has primary responsibility, including routine cleaning of common areas, restrooms, floors, and other assigned spaces.
  • Complete routine maintenance and cleaning duties at program centers and the Central Office.
  • Ensure that major maintenance needs and requested repairs are completed as assigned.
  • Document completed tasks using program-required forms, including Indoor and Outdoor Environment Sanitization Logs, Restroom Cleaning Logs, and Daily Task Records.
  • Assist with the remodeling, repair, and refurbishment of office spaces, classrooms, and storage areas, which may include minor carpentry, painting, sanding, and refinishing of furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Maintain current Safety Data Sheets SDS and ensure the proper and safe storage of chemicals.
  • Ensure the regular maintenance and upkeep of outdoor environments, including gardens, landscaped areas, playgrounds, outdoor structures, and parking areas.
  • Conduct daily inspections of playgrounds, facilities, and buildings.
  • Perform routine and thorough inspections of outdoor areas and playgrounds to ensure they are free from safety hazards, trash, weeds, and other debris.
  • Ensure that agency machinery, tools, and equipment are properly maintained and stored in a safe and secure location.
  • Assist with moving furniture, fixtures, and office equipment within and between program sites to support staff changes, relocations, renovations, and program expansion.
  • Assemble furniture, equipment, and other items as needed.
  • Be available to respond to emergency situations, including investigating alarm systems, conducting necessary building inspections, and responding to weather-related emergencies, as required.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
  • When required, be available for rotation among Head Start or Early Head Start centers based on operational needs.
  • Follow a preventive maintenance schedule for outdoor areas, including pressure washing and window cleaning.
  • Take a lead role in identifying, reviewing, mitigating, and reporting leaks, moisture, and mold-related concerns to prevent environmental health and safety risks.
  • Ensure healthy and safe playground conditions, including maintaining clean play areas, safe surfaces, proper drainage or removal of standing water, and addressing mold-related concerns.
  • Assist with preparing centers prior to the beginning of the program year.
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment, and ensure timely replenishment as needed.
