About The Position

Requirements

• HS Diploma: High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
• CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (California)
• 2 years recent relevant experience.
• Knowledge and practice of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to ordering Laboratory testing, collecting blood specimens, compassionately and effectively interacting with patients, handling and processing biological specimens, and supporting the performance of waived and moderate complexity testing.
• Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks.
• Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected timeframes.
• Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors.
• Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations or problems, shift-to-shift hand-offs, STAT test orders, specimen integrity issues, and regular review of pending logs, priority assignments, etc.
• Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence.
• Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.
• Solid critical thinking in applying knowledge and decision-making.
• Knowledge of and ability to recognize and appropriately escalate complex and unusual deviations, problems, unusual occurrences and unexpected outcomes.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a collaborative setting where the communication of current, factual, and relevant work information is required.

Responsibilities

• Analyzing Laboratory quality control and patient specimens.
• Performing quality assurance tasks related to the analytic phase of Laboratory work flow.
• Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Laboratory analyzers for "waived" and "moderate complexity" testing.
• Collecting blood specimens and interacting with patients.
• Receiving, handling, and processing a variety of specimens for Laboratory testing.
• Completing computerized tasks related to patient registration, test order entry, specimen collection, receiving, and processing.
• Performing basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports, storing, and/or retrieving specimens.
• Providing guidance to phlebotomists and lab assistants to promote optimal workflow and rapid problem resolution.
• Adhering to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.
