About The Position

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) with routine specimen processing in accordance with Ascend Clinical protocols. The role includes processing specimens, preparing tests, verifying and tracking specimens, completing related clerical functions, and performing general laboratory tasks. You will also help place specimens on automated instruments and work with laboratorians on documentation review and computer verification. The company has Hematology, Preanalytics, Chemistry, Environmental, and Immunochemistry departments.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Background in chemistry and math, and knowledge of medical terminology, specimen preparation techniques, and the principles of operation of common laboratory instruments.
Ability to perform repetitive work with a high degree of precision.
Ability to handle biological specimens safely.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate.

Nice To Haves

College education preferred.

Responsibilities

Comply with Ascend Clinical policies and procedures, including those for blood-borne pathogen exposure control, chemical hazards, illness and injury prevention, and quality assurance.
Organize work for large-batch processing and prioritize tasks for efficient completion.
Document work clearly, concisely, and thoroughly, and ensure shift paperwork is completed properly.
Set up automated instruments.
Perform instrument quality-control procedures and routine testing on automated instruments.
Perform minor hardware troubleshooting on automated instruments.
Participate actively in the facility's Quality Assurance program.
Take responsibility for special projects as directed by Management.
